Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord "Episode 1" Review: Darth Maul Returns As The Dark Sinister Leader Who's Building A Mysterious Collective!

This a return to form for the galaxy far far away with a new series in Star Wars: Maul-Shadow Lord. This animated series set after the Clone Wars shows the much famed Darth Maul being the mastermind behind a criminal syndicate. Sam Witwer returns as the voice of Darth Maul and the series usage of red is striking. You feel the sinister nature of the character that left us jarred all those decades ago. Who is the one character that can strike fear in anyone in the galaxy beside Darth Vader? Maul is evil and cool, terrifying and terrific in is dialogue.
As the heir apperent and current President & Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni has always sought to expand the Star Wars universe. Although George Lucas created the character of Darth Maul, Filoni is the one who created this series for Disney Plus. What he creates so far in this first episode is intrigue, mystery, and the classic spy/crime dynamic that makes the universe all so exciting. As Maul tears throughout this episode we slowly get to see his plan unfold. Maul is building his own empire called the "Shadow Collective". Splintering from the Sith? Or looking to play both sides to see what he wants. The rest we will see unfold!
Within the first few minutes you se the methodical nature of Darth Maul. Something is up his sleeve! He works best in the shadows and in order to make this collective they act closely within in the group using those the manipulate to their will. They are at the mercy of them because one they are scared of them and two they have something over them. What's chilling is Maul's ability to get so much information in such short time.
