2022 NAACP Image Awards Recap: Meagan Good Looks Stunning On The Red Carpet, Will Smith Wins For "King Richard", Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Accept President's Award

 by Evan L. Jackson

For every NAACP Image Awards I have an overarching theme to my media coverage. Thinking and thinking I was like, what shall be the theme this year and boom! It was right in front of my face, but no seriously it was right in front of me walking up the stairs when I see Clayton Davis of Variety, an awards show oracle who has predicted award ceremony winners for over a decade who is now at the esteemed Variety magazine. The theme of this is year's NAACP Image Awards was making new connections and reconnections. It was the first in person ceremony for the award show since 2020, which I attended: an extravagant red carpet affair that had the stars of stars. This ceremony for 53rd annual NAACP Image awards was hybrid of an in person red carpet at The Hollywood Roosevelt hotel accompanied by a booming watch/afterparty and virtual presentation of presenters and winners. I like this approach as we are , fingers crossed, at the tail end of the COVID pandemic so I'm assuming the NAACP committee saw this as a happy medium. The night was filled with Black excellence and as you'll see theme for this year was perfect for the night ahead.

Continuing to walk to The Hollywood Roosevelt hotel I see in the lobby Actress Meagan Good, star of the Prime Video show "Harlem", in a beautiful pink ensemble that is shinny and flowing. Actor Khelo Thomas was in good spirits heading to the red carpet, as he expressed aspirations to play a superhero on the big screen. The red carpet featured academy award winner Daniel Kaaluya, the talented and beautiful young ladies of "King Richad": Layala Crawford and Danielle Lawson. The main red carpet area was subdued and led into The Hollywood Roosevelt pool area which had a dazzling display for the award show after party that had a performance by SWV.

The fashion highlights of the night was actress Zendaya in vintage Balmain and co-stars Jay Ellis and Yvonne Orji looking great! Will Smith accepted his Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture win virtually, he wins for his role in King Richard. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry accept the President's Award presented by NAACP Image Awards host Anthony Anderson. They accept the award for their humanitarian work and promise to fight injustices that go on through out the world. We look forward to the 54th annual NAACP Image Awards which will be hopefully fully in person so that the magic of celebrating Black excellence continues!
