The life of an artist can be difficult. The life of a chalk artist? Factor in dealing with record heat right on the cusp of summer doing a piece on an icon or an unforgettable image. All while your trying to create a three dimensional effect to that very same artwork now that might be doubly hard. This weekend the Pasadena Chalk Festival was underway in the Paseo Colorado downtown area. Tributes to Prince, David Bowie, and Muhammad Ali adorned the sidewalks. Giggling kids loved their favorite cartoon characters seen in chalk and the live entertainment was great touch to the event. Pasadena natives buzzed about as they saw pieces dedicated to Frida Khalo and original artworks. This event displayed the city's most creative art where you could spread your message, appreciate a late great, and of course have some fun in the sun.
