By Evan Jackson
Viola Davis is set to receive the Chairman's Award at the 2026 NAACP Image Awards. She's chosen as an Honore for her contributions in film, television, and advocacy work. Her historic career includes the prestigious EGOT title:with her winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and a Tony! Her iconic performances have been quoted from portraying Anna Lease Keating in ABC's How To Get Away With Murder, playing opposite Denzel in Fences, to Netflix' Ma Rainey Black Bottom. Over the years Viola has won 9 NAACP Image Awards for her performances. This year she is nominated for her performance in Prime Video's "G20". Viola Davis is a shinning symbol of success in Hollywood and has had historic moments as well being the most nominated Black actress in Oscars history. At the Voice Actor Awards a few years ago I talk to her about her career and what it means to be honored.
Previous Chairman's Award winners include President Barack Obama, Vice President Kamala Harris, Janet Jackson, Amanda Gorman and more. Leon W. Russel, chair of NAACP National Board of Directors, had great words to say about Viola Davis:“Viola Davis is a generational talent who has commanded audiences with her powerful and transcending performances,” acknowledging Davis for her “deeply impactful commitment to driving change.”
The NAACP Image Awards will air live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 8 p.m. Eastern on BET and CBS.
