2022 AAFCA Awards Recap: 'The Harder They Fall' & "King Richard' Leads In-Person AAFCA Film Awards

The award season continues with AAFCA Awards being held at the SLS Beverly Hills Luxury Hotel last night. This was the first in person return for AAFCA Film Awards, African American Film Critics Association. Taking home Best Picture is the Jeyemes Samuel directed & Jay-Z executive produced "The Harder They Fall'. The film also won honors in Best Director, Best Music and Best Ensemble.
Taking top honors for Best Actor is Will Smith in his award winning performance in King Richard where he portrays Venus And Serena Williams father, Richard Williams. King Richard continues its reign of wins winning for Best Supporting Actress for Aunjenee Ellis and Emerging Director Reinaldo Marcus Green.
Jennifer Hudson takes away the Best Actress mantle with her performance in "Respect", the Aretha Franklin biopic. The Netflix satire 'Don't Look Up' wins for best screenplay, the film stars academy award winners Jennifer Lawrence, Leoardo Decaprio, and Meryl Streep about an astroid heading towards earth.
Rounding out the winners is "Who We Are" for Best Independent Film , QuestLove's "Summer of Soul" win Best Documentary, and a actor Corey Hawkins wins Best Supporting Actor for the Denzel Washington led "The Tragedy of Macebeth".
