Netflix’s ‘Champagne Problems’ Is A Meet Cute Christmas Rom Com Bubbling With A Cozy Touch!
By Evan L. Jackson
On this rainy and cold day in the LA area, I wanted to watch a warm and cozy Christmas film thar didn’t feel too Christmasy. On the menu was the delicious rom com that is “Champagne Problems” starring Minka Kelly. This film reminded me of the classic Christmas rom coms that were in black & white, like “Christmas in July”. A cute would be couple that you’re rooting for, obvious obstacles and supporting characters that add flavor to the film overall. This is one of Minka Kelly’s best roles yet! Bubbling close to the field of breakout stars this is a good vehicle. Already #2 on the Netflix movie charts, I see continued success for this film. The added element of it taking place in Paris, France makes this a unique mix of love, Holliday spirit. & a rom com quirky fun.
Minka Kelly has all the elements of becoming a star but in my opinion not a stand out role or signature until this film. Every actor needs a good rom com to enrich their filmography. Minka portrays a career oriented businesswoman seeking to gain a champagne account and after being sent to Paris unexpectedly meets the champagne owner’s son. What ensues next is a series of adventures with a charismatic Minka in the center of it. She carries the movie well and I’d like to see her in more rom coms particularly on the big screen. For now Champagne problems will do.
The supporting characters are just right in this film. One of the funniest lines in the film comes from actor Sean Amsing who plays Roberto, with him saying, “I drink champagne, I party, and I know things. That’s what I do”. Also providing laughs is actor Flula Borg. Delivered in dead pan but the absurdity of his monologues offers up a good carousel of characters.
The holiday spirit is lightly sprinkled through the film, still keeping the rom com at the center. This is my kind of movie! Even a classic trope of Christmas films like a stroll through the town’s market still had the aroma of a film neatly placed in Paris. See Champagne Problems for the fun, stay for the bubbling chemistry and be delighted by the final scenes!
